I Think most people know the La Blogothèque video where he sings this song accapella in an alleyway in Paris, but I also love this version he did in Montreal. These live cuts are little time capsules of that era, that exist only on this corner of the internet. Side note: I’m having a fuckin’ ROUGH go of it right now, and this album is just one of the things I try to help get through it. As a general rec, the album ”For Emma, Forever Ago” is a 10/10

Four incredible songs that bridged the gap between the folky For Emma, Forever Ago and the self-titled follow up that incorporated more electronic elements. I remember having some deeply introspective moments to this EP when I was younger.

The remaining members of fan faves Ivy (husband and wife Andy Chase/Dominique Durand) have released a previously unheard outtake from 1997's "Apartment Life," produced by another fave of mine, Lloyd Cole (who also plays some guitar on the track). It's fantastic and I can't believe we haven't heard it until now. If guitar-based, French-accented indie-pop makes you feel some kinda way, you need to give this a listen now. The band’s 2000 album Long Distance is also about to get a reissue, which means we’ll soon get to hear a bunch of unearthed gems from those days. The 25th anniversary vinyl reissue will feature three bonus tracks, including this gem, while the digital also tacks on a demo of the hit “Edge Of The Ocean” to go along with the remix that’s also included. If you love the late, great Adam Schlesinger as much as I do, you'll also dig the video tribute that Dominique and Andy have put up on the YouTubes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8xISJVl4lQ

A song about a particular bar in Portland, OR. And a “dark night of the soul” spent there. 🥃 Also: "the title is a metaphor for when you're not doing well. But it's also a song about redemption and realizing that you're worth something; that you're special and not special at the same time." To my ears, it’s the sound that snow makes on a moonless night. Lovely.

A website with a collection of screengrabs from nearly every movie you could think of, and you can sort by film title, director, cinematographer, year, genre, country, etc. Great for visual references for lookbooks, or just to discover a new film you might be interested in seeing! I've attached one of my favorite stills, a great moment from Chungking Express (Dir. Wong Kar-Wai, 1994).

Just going out and picking up any kind of used physical media (books, CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes) makes the archivist in me happy, like I’m preserving somebody else’s story/ enjoyment of something My personal favorite thing is VHS tapes, I’ve got a decent collection (all thrifted) and they’re usually the cheapest things offered
