I’ve found poetry to be extremely helpful in putting words and images to the unwordable in my life. Plus it unlocks my creativity, it’s fun, I get to play around with words. I also find it helpful to distinguish it as poetry, not poetic journaling. Poetry is written with the intention of being read to someone else. Poetic journaling is not. Imagining I’m writing to someone else (and then sharing what I write with close friends or in poetry circles) can alleviate the burden of whatever I’m writing about in a healthy way for everyone involved. Therapy is cool too

April is apparently National Poetry Month—just in time for me to read more poetry like I’ve been wanting to. According to Goldsmiths University of London, just reading a poem during a break can enhance free-flowing associative thought. This is the ability to fluidly connect ideas and come up with new ideas. Distraction is abundant and deep thinking is becoming scarce. Poetry has also been known to help people connect to and appreciate beauty in a more meaningful way. As creative people, I think we could all benefit from reading more poems!

Even if it sucks so much it's a nice little time to just write your little words. Like journaling but sexier and more mysterious or whatever. SO romantic to say I'm writing poetry when really it's more or less a journal entry with lots of figurative language

a creative writing and language exercise yes, but also perfect for lovers of rabbit holes - you have to hunt for social, historical context to do many poems justice. you get to wrestle with tricky idioms and niche reference and emerge with some scars. it has become one of my most cherished hobbies. if you’re even a beginner at a language and love poetry, take a crack at it. also! bilingual poetry editions are the best ❣️

Whatever happened to describing something as ”dandy” or exclaiming “well, i declare”? I want to be a bit antiquated without being seen as silly. Is that too much to ask? I suppose this is my love of Norm Macdonald rearing its head

A buddy of mine and I just started homebrewing and it’s sick. We started with an amber ale and now we’re doing a session IPA. It’s so fun to make a big batch and give some to all your friends! Plus, you can make some bomb ass beer for cheap once you get over the cost of buying supplies.

She started dating someone else. Damn! Oh well. Time to move on but feelings have a funny way of lingering. Would love tips because this is embarrassing and weird and I don’t like it
