Finally rewatched this while in London. Actually knowing where places in the show are is so cool. rewatching shows years later, in a different place and a different headspace is so surreal. Not watching in a teenage doomer way anymore, watching this remembering my doomer thoughts and with a hell of a lot more hope about relationships. It WILL pass!

Decided to rewatch girls because I’m sick and bedridden. The first time I watched Girls I was 18, and was living in a hostel in Times Square. I remember really wanting to be like the girls. The last time I watched this show all the way through I was 20, and I was living in Brooklyn during the pandemic. I remember watching it and missing getting to see my friends and explore the city. Now I’m 23, and am the same age as the girls. It resonates differently now, as I am finding myself in situations like theirs, or cringing at how stupid I think they all are at times. It’s such an odd comfort watch.

i think i have rewatched this season ATLEAST 12 times at this point. everything reminds me of it. the writing is perfect and the chatacters are all so well crafted and you can just tell what they are like and what relationships are like between charachters by like 5 sentences. so much is said with such little words. the season is only 6 episodes but you get a feel for the world around it. it is my perfect feel good show. i watch it on a bus, plain, high, low, drunk, hungover, especially hungover.

probably my favourite film series of all time and rewatching for the first time since “before midnight” came out in 2013 let those themes of the transience of lived experience + the weight of time’s passage deepen and resonate more truly for you baby!! Reflect on the person you were then and the person you are now! All that good stuff …

like many of the other responses to this post, I think that having physical copies of media ensures that there is some enduring access. It’s archival. I would also add that having the physical copies enhances engagement with the media. This is of course a privilege bc physical media is usually more expensive than digital, but I do think that consuming Digital media is often more passive. Idk. I love my phone too (and Spotify and the internet archive and Gutenberg project). But after I started collecting CDs and physical books I became very interested in getting as much as possible out of them. listening to the same album in its entirety for weeks at a time. rereading a book (Seriously, I would rarely reread a book before). Also lending the copies to friends is the best thing in the world. Like being able to share and then discus- or even just the sharing. Whether or not you get it back it just becomes a gift. Which is nice. Anyways to blabber on this last point: I don’t think that you always have to personally own and keep forever all of the physical media you accrue. just going to a library does a lot of the same good (supporting local archiving + engaging with stuff my tangibly + media becoming communal). learning that many libraries still have VHS, CDs, and DVDs available to check out changed my life. ya.
