Spinanes/Rebecca Gates with one of the greatest lyrics of all time. 🔥 Spinanes are easily one of Portland’s five best bands, ever. Two pieces from this point forward (White Stripes, Black Keys, Japandroids, DFA 1979, the Kills) now had a template to work from.

failure - fantastic planet

this record is from 1996 and captures that era so perfectly. it definitely exists in the grunge zone but i think it’s kind of its own weird thing. the harmonies and energy instantly evoke the intimacy of the mtv unplugged performances of nirvana and alice in chains. though its less massive sounding than either of those bands studio records, theres a rawness in these recordings that i love

The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God "Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love) I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot." God only knows what we'd been without him 🙏🏻
