recently I watched a youtube video by a creator named “Bandsplained” about a small genre called “library music” its all session music from the generally the 70s-90s, all recorded and sold to music libraries for films and whatever else the public wants to do with it. the playlist attached to this video holds some really solid stand outs, and it makes me feel very peaceful, it’s like because this music was made without names attached, and never meant for stardom, it was made with some egoless purity for the love of the game. a very odd blend of mass appeal and boundary pushing experimentation is achieved in some of these tracks, and in giving up its own desires as music to be known, it massages the listeners mind to achieve smooth and seamless inspiration. often, music inspires by presenting its artist as an idol of extreme talent and mind, the achieving of which is like fucking a mountain. This is useful and beautiful too, but it can lend itself to the feeling of overwhelming competitiveness, and could leave the listener burnt out in the flames of the artists greatness.

i loved these at school and now at my job when i have to dive into spreadsheets and research i like to have them playing, and if i’m at home i usually burn a complementary candle. also when i read fiction books i sometimes like to listen to one of these in the background with a vibe matching the book i also like the ones that don’t have jazz and are just background sound without music. also there’s some channels that do book or movie themed ones like this one that has studio ghibli background ambience videos

An ex-lover introduced me to this youtube channel that plays non-stop "beats to relax/study to" and honey it has become the soundtrack of my LIFE! I'm a library bitch (can't write if music has lyrics) so this ambient instrumental station is perfect to listen to while I'm trying to write the next great american instagram poem from the comforts of my own bed. and it goes without saying the girl in the video has become like family to me! she's sooo cozy & hygge & I really hope she gets everything she wants in this life. there is also some kind of community aspect to the station in the form of a constantly refreshing chat function that I don't understand and fear immensely, please don't explain it to me!

When I'm working I like to have something playing in the background. Usually, that comes from youtube. As I've mentioned previously in recs - sometimes it's Kenji videos, but often it’s random ambient youtube playlists. Whether it's ambient forest sounds, libraries, or whatever your favorite fictional world is (yes I play ambient harry potter music), there are endless several-hour-long videos on youtube for you. This is ASMR at its finest.
