They aren’t technically squids, and they don’t suck blood. They’re just little guys

They are great. They filter feed floating debris with sticky feeding tentacle and they have existed very deep in the fossil record.

Wow love it - also love that they’re posers. Great answer!

@ZARA it’s not so much that they’re posers—the scientists that discovered them thought they were terrifying and misidentified them as squids. Their full scientific name translates to “vampire squid from hell”. And they can’t be correctly classified under any existing category of animal, so now scientists just call them vampires!

Taking the silly edgy name aside I think I would just like to experience something that I cannot ever experience as a human. There are many such things, but the deep sea seems specially interesting... Also experiencing your body without vertebrae... Something without many know predators and can just float around like the vampire squid seems the best option giving the harsh environment... And aren't they beautiful?

I think about these guys all the time Fun fact: Some sea slugs can steal the genes from other things. Some steal from plants to create their own energy via chlorophyll! Others steal nematocysts (stinging cells) from jellyfish so they can sting predators!! They’re squishy little thieves!!!
