on socials: @irisolympia @mossy_socks I just love the layered grunge and adventure vibes of both of these people. But also I feel like it's super important to find your fashion inspo out in the real world so that you can see if the style is actually wearable. Things are much easier to style for an online photo than for an actual workday for example.

To start, try to copy a style you really like. It’s gonna feel like a costume or like you are “pretending” for a little while, but as you wear it and fine tune it day to day, you will find yourself more comfortable in it. Or you won’t! Which means you just switch paths and try something new! It is about experimenting to find something that fits, and discomfort isn’t something to be scared of because it just means you are discovering what fits and what doesn’t! Some people I look to for example are: Jazzelle (uglyworldwide on Instagram) Tory Zink (Torymua on Instagram) Macy Higgins (macyeatspaint on Instagram) Tank Girl (fictional character) Nana (both nanas, fictional also) A lot of old goth/ alt characters from the early 2000s I also look to the people around me in my peer groups. I sell at art markets and go to a lot of queer events, so I’ve got so many things to pick and choose from!

I like watching older movies and sort of figuring out a fit by doing a very casual cosplay / recreation. pulpy 70s sci fi is a bed of inspo for this. Logan’s run inspired me to buy green tights from the halloween section to pair w my more floaty tops/tunics. Biggest thing is to be a critic and then ask yourself why you like something or don’t, this helps not just w individual outfit info but developing / keeping true to your tastes. Also watching the current runway shows on Youtube is a lovely way to experience high fashion, art, music, etc in one. A fun and worthwhile way to spend an afternoon for anyone even vaguely interested in or curious about fashion imo. Look critically at the fits and what you like and why you like it, what’s successful, what colors or silhouettes are you gravitating towards, etc. Then revisit some old fashion shows too, old Mughler is so fun imo and the Alexander McQueens are campy vampy classics. You really don’t need to look to anyone who is your peer or contemporary for fashion advice, look above and beyond and scale it down for your personal style / lifestyle.

go places & try things on ! i came up in the fashion blog wave & will [somewhat embarrassingly] always be kinda menswear pilled due to heavy exposure to putthison & four pins at an impressionable age . so i definitely love developing taste by just consuming a million images of things you’ll never wear or even likely see in person in combination with articles about clothes that are equally removed from your life ... but truly nothing beats just going to stores & trying things on . there’s no better way to see what actually works for you & feels good on your body than the tactile experience of wearing different clothes , often trying something on can put you on to a shape/style/fabric/brand you might not have otherwise considered . i love shopping designer consignment for this because you can try a really wide range of brands/eras/styles all in one place & they usually have some sort of curation so you don’t have to dig forever to find beautiful things . but also the experience of going to try on things you couldn’t necessarily afford at fancy possibly overpriced shops [‘boutiques’] is also great because honestly part of dressing up & shopping is the fantasy of a person you might be if you had the right clothes . obligatory shoutout to jon moy , arabelle sicardi , derek guy & tumblr fashion blogs/archives for influencing the way i shop & look at clothes forever

There's nothing like seeing the city from a plane windows. Sparkling like stars down there. The little people in their little cars and twinkling homes. Feels so bittersweet and human somehow.

More specifically, watching your favorite rom com and then your crush's favorite rom com (is there an adult word for crush), back to back at the same time as they are watching them. But instead of the social exhaustion of video calling you just text while you watch them. Even better you guys like each other mutually, so it should be exhilerating, but they cannot and will not be with you so instead it's just a lesson in your terrible self restraint. Exhilerating anyway. Good movies, good conversation. Unbeatable.
