if you can do it even a little bit it’s not that hard to get pretty good. i went from like really struggling to hit notes to doing all kinds of little tunes in like 5 days of just whistling all the time. i can’t explain it but once you’ve got it its just such an exciting form of musical expression

if you are having trouble keeping your strum pattern while singing, just hum and focus on the strum! you’ll be able to get that down and work up to singing words without getting it all jumbled up in your head. helped me!

Not for the reason you’re thinking. So that when your phone is close to dying and you‘re on a long walk you can vamp over the chord progression in your head. sing the melody first, keep snapping, and then impersonate the band. i just went for like 34 minutes round and round. you will never be bored. p.s. you don’t need to know theory to do this, clearly, there are a billion phenomenal “untrained” musicians. But piano being forced on me at 7 yesrs old was probably the best thing that has ever happened for my brain.

Technically, anyone can sing. If you can match a pitch, you can sing. Try out some basic vocal exercises and experiment with placement. Don’t worry about sounding “good”, even if it sounds like you‘re yelling. A daily vocal practice will result in a tone and style that’s completely unique to you!

Videos. Journals. Planners. Calendars. Playlists. Spreadsheets. Letters to open in the future. Keeping track of the present (in a way that is low stakes and fun) keeps me from dwelling on the past or feeling upset about changing. It will be there for me if and when I want to return to it! And I get to dip into the things I have thought and felt and loved in the past and maybe they become part of my life again or they don't! I also love to experiment with form in the ways that I record myself. Journals are a classic, but doing something like journaling in a planner with limited space or on a calendar means you have to pick just one memory from each day. Or making playlists / watchlists / reading lists of what's important to you at a time. Embarking upon fun little challenges of discovery (places, songs, books, movies, foods) and keeping track of what you learn in an organized (or disorganized) way! Video journals or little vlogs just for yourself! Scrapbooking! Fun in the moment to create and fun in the future to rediscover.

it’s a shit game so if you’re gonna play it at least go for a little “nice to come home” when you land on one of your own properties
