a bunch of lesbians hanging out in the 90s and living and talking about movies and their lives; gotta be one of my favorite film genres. co-written by guinevere turner, who also stars in The Watermelon Woman, another cornerstone classic of the genre.
i watched this in february and i thought this film was super interesting! i think it's a very important film for representation of black queer women (for the time period) as well as its themes of hollywood historically forgetting black actresses, friendship, and romantic relationships. there were a few aspects of the film that i didn't like, such as how cheryl (the main character) basically prioritized her relationship with diana over her friendship with tamara. but overall i think it's an important part of queer canon :)
it’s a recommendation from a film school best friend, and I feel like this film not only dissects womanhood, but also shows how a gay boy like me, being surrounded by women, felt so comfortable and warm :)
think the movie you’re watching is boring? just chill with it! think an album isnt for you? just chill with it! about to abandon a book? just chill with it! see/hear it out! open your mind to the possibility of enjoying something new :)
