I found this photo of myself circa ~1994 and loved my energy in it. It’s a tight crop from a larger photo that included my parents. Not sure if this was genuine or a bit of a pose (I can be a ham) but the ennui captures more of my internal energy as an adult than I felt as a kid. Because while I’m a pretty hopeful, positive person, this photo is also how the world - and the experience of being a person in it - can make me feel at least once a day.

this one is a sarcastic recommendation. you probably shouldn’t do this. all i’ll have to show my grandchildren someday are photos of me with my face contorted into various unattractive expressions. i’ll say “well… this is just who i was at the time…” and they’ll have nothing to post on their instagram stories when it’s Grandmother’s Day. my Genuine recommendation is this: smile for photos. do it for your grandkids.

I used to spend every night sitting outside looking up into the night sky trying to find constellations. I used to be so obsessed that I got my Mom to take me to a viewing conservatory with a giant telescope every week so I could see Mars in 4K. When that wasn't enough my mom got me a million and one books on constellations, moons and stars, and how to identify them along with a shiny new high tech telescope. I haven't used a lot of that stuff in years after we moved unfortunately. I learned very quickly that light pollution is a big issue once you move away from the trailer parks and into the suburbs, and any chance at seeing stars is squashed under someone's giganormous TV shining brighter than a Ford F150's headlights. Straight up archangel Michael coming to take me away during the rapture kind of brightness that these people are using. However I am nothing if not stubborn! I will find a way to use that big ol' telescope I have and I swear I'm gonna find every constellation, star and planet that passes overhead if it's the last thing I do!

Sometimes just looking up and taking in your surroundings makes you feel so real and human. Something about seeing what your fellow man has created is really inspiring and gives you a cheery buzz of life.
