it was a tough battle between this and ready player one but at the end of the day this movie is the single worst theater experience iāve ever had. so, so, *so* stupid, but *so* convinced of its own cleverness and profundity. zack snyder is such an instinctually fascist filmmaker but heās too fucking stupid to weave his savage impulses into a coherent worldview, so everything he makes is just two hours of The Most Serious Guys In the World doing their best punisher impression while saying the dumbest shit youāve ever heard in your life.
i had seen bad movies before this, but i had never seen a movie in theaters that was bad enough that it was able to totally overwhelm the natural aura bonus a film gets from being screened in one. was a valuable flashpoint in my cultural development and maybe fundamentally shattered any interest i had in superhero movies until into the spiderverse

I just watched this in the cinema last night and was completely bowled over by the plethora of opportunities they had to make it a good movie, and every single time they just did the exact opposite. It's STAGGERINGLY boring. Don't get me started on the fuckass wig they put my girl Tilda Swinton in. Also it's a musical. And I love musicals. And I did not love this one.
Also honourable mention to Emilia PĆ©rez which I think is the worst movie ever made maybe. But I think you can watch EP high with your friends and laugh.

do you really need to go see the minecraft movie? you know itās bad. like, not even bad-but-redeemably-funny. itās uninspired product placement propped up by celebrity and strung together by a plot just coherent enough to present the references that rile up the fans. you know the memes already, youāre not missing out on some cultural moment because you didnāt see the rest of the hour-and-a-half around Jack Black saying āchicken jockey.ā
if you like minecraft that much (and I love minecraft), maybe you gather your friends for a LAN server night instead of paying for a ticket and putting a body in a seat and giving even a modicum of validation to the corporate film studio executiveās intuition that the masses are content to consume high production value slop from a media trough. start a realm, get blown up by a creeper, fight the ender dragon, listen to one of the best video game soundtracks of all time. donāt spend $30+ on tickets and drinks and snacks to sit in a theater and watch something you will not enjoy. in this economy, the most valuable things we have are our time, attention, and connections. donāt squander these things on a piece of media designed only to profit from a sentimental attachment to a game which provides a complete and much richer experience in and of itself.

genuinely the most fun iāve ever had in a theater. there are so many laughably bad lines, a convoluted and inconsistent plot, all of the villainās dialogue is entirely ADR, and the editing is the worst (best) iāve ever seen. 10/10 recommend

spent the last two weeks working on an interactive guide, recommendations database, and digital library (link depot) to help get people off of social media. the first draft is done now, and it's at the link to this post.
it's still very much a work in progress (the library is especially thin atm) - which is why i wanted to share it here before unleashing it upon my IRL friends and the general public. i welcome any and all feedback, bug reports, and suggestions for things to add. i will be pushing updates to it out like a madman in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back every so often to see new additions to the database and library.
additionally, i am still on the hunt for newsletters from local venues / community organizations / magazines / newspapers, etc. the only cities i have remotely covered so far are nyc, orlando, denver, brisbane, and little bits of worcester and chicago. if you know anything in your area that fits the bill, send it my way!
