I know, this sounds awful. But for me it's exactly what I needed to get out of this evil depressive mood.. I hate scrolling but it's easy to fall back into the habit when I have a break from school, so when school starts up again and I'm doing homework for 6 hours on a saturday, I just think of it as an activity I'm doing instead of scrolling. My time becomes so much more valuable, too, I'm gonna use it to watch beautiful movies (and such) instead of throwing it into the time black hole that is tiktok

my roommate and I were making a list earlier of movies we wanted to watch, which made me think of how many books and video games and albums I have on my lists that I just haven’t gotten around to. (let alone my hobbies like learning guitar or studying languages or doing creative stuff!!!) which also made me realize.. if I put off things that I WANT to do, what have I been doing with my time then??? Scrolling social media??? I’ve lost so much time endlessly scrolling my phone, and I think it’s time I get around to all of those pieces of art and hobbies and experiences I’ve been putting off. Time outside. Reading. Making my own clothes/upcycling old clothes into new clothes. Writing. Cooking or baking, especially for friends/family/etc. Gardening. Painting your nails if you’re into that. Art, drawing, painting, scrapbooking. Going on walks or just outside to take pictures of nature. Fill your time!! Enriching/fulfilling activities and sunshine are the cure to doomscrolling. I have no apps for socials other than this, had to download ig for work the other day, found myself scrolling when I was done just out of habit, and I immediately deleted the app and started doing something more productive instead.

Whenever I feel screen-bad and I know I want to do something else I do like a buffer activity to give myself time to decide what the ultimate goal is. Its helpful for me if it’s something that involves water so my phone can’t come with me and I’m really resetting my day, like doing the dishes or taking a shower. Things I like to do once I’ve amped up to it: -Tinker, found some free frames on the street and spent the afternoon painting and fixing them with whatever I had around. -Fancy errands like going to specialty shops (bakery, butcher, wine shop) then dinner becomes the project with whatever you’ve scrounged. -Be a member of something, it will guilt you into going (pool, museum, local movie theater) -just do one thing, there’s so much multi tasking asked of us and our attention, just doing one thing feels great sometimes (just eating, just drinking a hot bev, just listening to an album all the way through, just doing the dishes- I think I love doing the dishes?) I 100% feel where you’re coming from and often struggle in the same way!

at least, thats what im doing right now. i made excuses to stay on them for so long because they kept me up with whats happening in the world, exposed me to really cool sfuff and whatever. even gave myself a timer on tiktok so i couldnt be on for more than thirty minutes, but two days ago i got fed up and just deleted it. im tired of having a background to all my activities so to speak, i want things to be surrounded by void instead so i can actually feel BORED again and thus partake in more activities and feel fulfilled. all this is to say it may also help if you write down or journal about why you want to be off your phone lol, i made the decision to delete my most used app because i had too much time to think about it during a long class and realized its not making my life any better. Sorry for the rant, i have lowkey also just been wanting to talk about this..

what do you mean im driving on a road that connects the entire country coast to coast? and by consequence im connected to every single other person driving on it, everybody rushing home or to work, everybody setting off on a road trip, every trucker thats just doing their job and probably not thinking about it. Think of me next time ur on I-40 .......

Bring patios back!! also, there's nothing better than being dead hungry in the middle of a hike and sitting down to demolish a shitty sandwich, which in that moment is the best thing you have ever tasted. the dirt makes it taste better not joking
my favourite time of day is when it’s close to sunset, the birds are chirping, everything’s settling down for the evening, and you’re just enjoying a little meal with your doggo (who’s clearly just here in hopes you give him food.)
