this is a very natural human fear that i think crops up especially in adolescence/young adulthood when you are forced to put a lot of focus on the self and understanding your place in the world and what your future will look like. apocalyticism is often viewed from a religious angle, but i think it’s very human in general. we are naturally self-centered and experience the world through our lived experience. this makes in very difficult and scary to imagine a world without ourselves in it, no matter how different it may look.
apocalypticism is the belief that the world will end, usually in one’s own lifetime. it’s easier to digest and almost comforting to think that the world willcease existence while we’re still around to witness it. accepting that the end will happen long after we’re gone is hard to integrate with our experience of the world as something that exists through the lens of the self. not saying that things aren’t uniquely bad and scary right now, but humanity has had a lot of terrible times and millions have felt that they were on the brink of the end and millions more in the future will also experience this. not sure if this is comforting or depressing but hope it gives some perspective lol
