is anything by RB a deep cut? no. and yet.. i remained uninitiated until now. this creepy tale of a carnival rolling into a small town goes undeniably hard. gorgeous prose, genuinely disorienting scenes, a really tender look at boyhood and aging. itās fall where i live and i canāt imagine a better season to crack this one open.

i donāt read too many, so i donāt have a fav short story and this isnāt too eerie, either, but this one i just vividly remember reading in early middle school. i was such a fast reader that whenever we read something independently in class (like this) iād start reading other parts of the textbook or whatever library book i had lol

a good collection of sci-fi and other fiction short stories of his that I enjoyed reading last summer. snagged a nice vintage copy at half price books for cheap. the way the book is marketed makes it seem like itās all creepy stories but thereās a lot of thought provoking stories and some really sweet ones too

i guess it's a collection of short stories but nonetheless worth a read. i picked up this copy from the 70s last year at a used bookstore as my summer read and really enjoyed it. it has the classic sci-fi stuff you'd expect from him but also some stuff that takes place in the time period it was written in. a lot of very thought provoking premises and brief glimpses into interesting universes in this one

ideally i would love to gain the trust and respect of a corvid š¦āā¬ they love to give and receive tiny gifts and i relate to that.
goose and swan are also great options though a bit riskier since these guys can get mad as hell and those long necks are powerful
i would also love to volunteer at a raptor sanctuary and help take care of falcons, owls, etc.
i feel pretty sad and disturbed by most caged birds and having a parrot, for example is a massive emotional responsibility, their lifespans also mean itās a lifelong commitment, i probably wouldnāt go this route but respect those who do it right š«”

one of my favorite artists. the sculpture in the photo is in clay but his work includes lots of deer motifs, wood, terracotta, moments from indigenous mythology...
