I love photo books and have spent hundreds of hours staring at them since learning they existed at the bard college library about a decade ago. But I’m not sure I’ve ever been so emotionally affected by anyone else’s work. His new book “Failing“ completely floored me and his first book “A Period of Juvenile Prosperity” is almost as good too. Dark shit tho be prepared
the hallmark of any vacation book - somehow getting it wet by the pool and fucking it up really loved this book. ive been a fan of keith's writing (mostly his instagram captions) for a while now and i'm glad I took a stab at this. i finished it in 3 sittings - very rare for me - and i walked away with a much deeper appreciation for visionaries like keith. it's brutally honest, quite sad, clever, and had me smiling throughout. the way he describes his approach to dreaming up restaurants, and the twists n turns of his career, left me feeling inspired. need to try more of his NYC restaurants beyond balthazar, any recs?
Brutal. Honest. Unflinching. Ugly. You can’t look away, but there is love beneath it all. You’ll either read this in a scorching mad dash or slow it down for more of a controlled burn, either way you will come away changed.
been deep in beat lit for the past year+ and somehow didnt stumble across this one until now. deeply new york, deeply of the 50s/60s, and some of the most inventive prose style ive read. highly, highly rec. there’s a film w jennifer jason leigh which i will be watching tn
