ANNOTATING BOOKS FOR FRIENDS
I found this book today that I would love to read in tandem with my friend but we’re both so busy. Her birthday is coming up and she said she didn’t want any gifts but I decided I’m going to annotate this book and give it to her. It feels like I’m texting her while she’s asleep and I can’t wait for her to wake up and see all my messages. Granted, her birthday is in a week and it might take me a little longer to get through the book but it’s worth it!

My friend used to lend me her books that she'd buy once they're released. She would leave post-it notes throughout! And I would, too, so when I returned it to her, she'd be cackling on the phone when we caught up to talk about the book. I would call her after certain chapters, too, when I couldn't wait. It was so fun! I bet your friend will love and cherish your gift.

The book is Time’s Echo by Jeremy Eichler - it’s about WWII, the holocaust, the classical music that was composed in the wake of both, and how music relates to memory

I found out a friend annotates every book he reads. I don’t think I could ever do that, but I would love to read something he’s annotated. More than that I would love to read a book someone has specifically annotated with me in mind.

Letting your friends annotate your books
I love to lend my friends books and reread the bits they highlighted and underlined again when they return them to me. It’s like having a conversation with them and you learn so much about how they feel and see the world. I do this with my best friend and it makes me feel so close to her.
