was so so so obsessed with leaving for so long but as of late i’ve come to resent the nyc/la brain drain epidemic and i’ve also come to appreciate the importance of trying to build community where you are for the people who can’t afford to leave. if this last push doesn’t work out though i’m definitely gone for sure lmao

I lived in Massachusetts for 28 years until 1 year ago today when I moved to NYC. I was feeling stagnant and afraid that I’d be there forever if I didn’t make a change. I am happy to say it was one of the best decisions I‘ve made. I don’t know if I’ll be here forever but I‘ve learned more about myself in 1 year than the last 5 and that’s something I’ll always be thankful for. I’ve made new friends, reconnected with old, gotten a new job, moved apartments, and had an enumerable unforgettable memories. If you are feeling stuck where you have always been, I recommend making a change because it will be both one of the more challenging and rewarding decisions you make. p/c riotgrrrl

I’ve been here for so long the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere and occasionally i feel like maybe it’s time to move on and then I go literally anywhere else in the country and I’m so relieved to be back home!!!

I grew up in a suburb in IL and definitely knew I would get out of there and move to the “big city” aka Chicago asap. So, I did that, and then the person I was deeply in love with moved to Denver. Eventually, my partner convinced me to move out of Chicago (kicking and screaming). I honestly did not love Colorado at first, but it‘s been 7 years it has grown on me and I’m glad I came here. However, we still aren’t sure this is where will stay permanently and always toy around with the idea of living somewhere else. It’s fun challenging yourself to leave your comfort zone - your network of friends, family, colleagues. It’s nice to have the option of solidarity, as well. I know some people are cool with living in the same place their whole life, but I would have regrets. The world is such a fun place - get out there and explore! See what calls to you, and lean into that. Once you make a big leap like moving away, you learn who you really are and what you’re capable of. You will meet people and have experiences along the way that you might not have by staying home.

spent the last two weeks working on an interactive guide, recommendations database, and digital library (link depot) to help get people off of social media. the first draft is done now, and it's at the link to this post. it's still very much a work in progress (the library is especially thin atm) - which is why i wanted to share it here before unleashing it upon my IRL friends and the general public. i welcome any and all feedback, bug reports, and suggestions for things to add. i will be pushing updates to it out like a madman in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back every so often to see new additions to the database and library. additionally, i am still on the hunt for newsletters from local venues / community organizations / magazines / newspapers, etc. the only cities i have remotely covered so far are nyc, orlando, denver, brisbane, and little bits of worcester and chicago. if you know anything in your area that fits the bill, send it my way!
