i've seriously been considering using my phone more like a tablet and getting a flip phone. i already moved my music onto an mp3 player last summer and i feel like since everyone ELSE has phones i could get by sans direct use of google maps...

you'll definitely have to bug the people at the phone store to help you set it up and there's a good chance they won't know how to do it but my dad has some tiny phone that gets calls and texts from his number so he can take that instead of his iphone, i just got two numbers (one for my iphone and one for my flip) but have some setting that all calls to my number will forward to my flip phone when I'm out. the extra sim for my flip phone was way cheaper than my iphone sim so it wasn't too bad. really the only other option i can think up is to just swap your sim card between both phones as you need it!

Get a dedicated GPS for your car, use the radio and try to find good local stations, and you'll be fine. I'd definitely recommend getting a phone with a slide-out keyboard for ease of use, but you could also just get a normal numpad one and keep your texts brief. I used to use a shitty nokia with only a numpad and never really had any problems typing that I can recall, but it was my first phone so maybe I had no perspective for comparison lol. Also you can definitely get a flip-phone with a web browser

at least casually. don’t delete the accounts but don’t have the apps on your phone either. rediscover your love of reading thru the magic of recognizing titles strangers are holding on the subway. become a subway reader. don’t use sound as an escape from your thoughts/feelings/surroundings. grocery shopping without headphones is actually kind of beautiful! pick up a new hobby or two or three. one of them should be something you’re not good at, and at least one should be no- or low-cost. never. stop. learning. the library, the parks and rec department, and nearby museums offer great materials already but also usually have free lectures or courses. go outside more. like, a lot more. (took this much less literally, so apologies if it’s not what you’re looking for lol — as a narcoleptic I have no tips on how to Not Sleep since Sleep is basically my job)

keeps it funky, keeps it fresh! a book for outside, a book for downstairs, a book for bed, a book for the subway, a book for the bathtub…..
