It’s okay to filter parts of yourself at work—just like how we share different sides of ourselves in different settings. I don’t think of it as being inauthentic, but more like adapting to the context of a professional environment. At work, I focus on being polite, helpful, and putting people at ease. I listen more than I initiate, and I keep conversations light or work-focused unless someone else opens up. That doesn’t mean I’m hiding who I am—just choosing what parts to share. If it feels like your coworkers aren’t vibing with you, there’s no harm in talking less and letting things flow naturally. Sometimes workplaces like this can feel social because you spend so much time together, but you’re not obligated to entertain people. Focusing on the work itself can be a relief and might even give others time to get to know you more gradually.

i feel like so many people are so insecure or afraid of what others think of them that they’re afraid to be genuine. it’s easier to be nonchalant because then no one can really judge who you ARE. but like. what’s the point of cultivating relationships if they’re only wanting to spend time with your self crafted persona. if we’re true to ourselves the right people will be attracted to that light :)
