i love to play with numbers!!!!
we use vector fields to describe electromagnetic fields, gravitation, ocean currents. they’re like beautiful mathematical wood grains.
vector fields guide curves like the path of a leaf in a stream I personally think they look like ermine fur. when was the last time you did math like it was art?
@CORDUROY a good teacher makes all the difference. as a fine art student I often question my place in the world of mathematics- but I have to tell you- there’s a place for you if you want it
i’m currently in an electrodynamics course and oh my god the beauty of electromagnetism and its fields is absolutely stunning! we live in such a beautiful reality it is such a joy learning about the art imbued into the fabric of our existence!
the invisible curls and flows of an electric field is just as beautiful as the eddies and rapids of a flowing river. both are nature expressing herself, one is just hidden behind relationships and differentials
@PESKYDOG wish i could add this image directly in the comments but the symmetries in electrodynamics are super neat https://beautiful.makie.org/dev/assets/streamplot.CEvfsLQm.png
really messes with my head. really obsessed with it. can’t wait to be a practicing physicist and mathematician. Its real and it isn’t real but it is totally real. I am personally a huge fan of leibniz! he (debated) invented calculus. the invention of calculus (calculus not having been explained/not existing) is not something I can process. It not ’existing’ and then ‘existing’ the next day. It’s also really fun.
numbers amaze me. there is not one thing around us that cannot be quantified. - the dimensions of the tiles i’m standing on;
- the number of threads in my tshirt;
- time;
- how many blades of grass i have just driven past;
- the amount of steps i am taking to get somewhere; numbers are EVERYWHERE
i have gotten into real debates with my friends for this one. but math exists in the same space in my brain as like… zeus. i’m not denying the existence of the concepts of math, but i think math and numbers are just a way humans describe the patterns we see. like how ancients used mythology to describe the patterns of weather and time. if the aliens come, there’s no way they are using y = mx + b and the quadratic formula to label that concept. they’re calling it something else. like obviously addition and subtraction is real, but we are just applying human explanations to something that already exists and calling it math. i guess it makes more sense to say math is just a mythology.
