we were 17 and i was on the animal collective side of tumblr and he was on the arctic monkeys side of tumblr. we both liked vampire weekend tho. i followed him through a mutual and we would reply back and forth sometimes until he added me on facebook and then messaged me that we should smoke weed together while he was on wisdom teeth medication (he lived in NJ and i lived in texas). then we just kept talking!
we went to college 6 hours apart and planned to meet halfway (louisville) so we met irl at a jamba juice and then spent the weekend stoned listening to radiolab in an econolodge. the first night we heard commotion outside and there were fireworks going off lol.
4 years of long distance in college + moved across the country together twice. just got married. as we were making the exit from our wedding, fireworks were going off

My partner and I met when we were freshman at the University of Iowa. We both lived in English major housing. One day, I went over to talk to my friend Ryan, a few doors down, and I saw Charlie leaning on his chair. They had long brown hair that was perfectly straight and a rich curtain of bangs. They had absurdly blue eyes. They were the hottest person I had ever seen and I decided that they were going to see a lot of me.
Unfortunately, Ryan was shy and Charlie was shyer making it hard to start conversations. So I listened, really really carefully for a chance to be combative. If I heard Charlie say anything I would disagree. If I heard them in the hallway, I would run it in front of them and “fall“ down the stairs. I did everything I could so they would have to talk to me! Pretty soon, we were in the same Intro to English major and then we were talking regularly (I was still annoying because that’s just the kind of person I am).
Then we went on a date to a pasta place, then we moved in together, then they saved my life, then we adopted a cat. And we lived like that for 10 years. Last year we got married in a historic theatre 15 minutes from where we first met. Today is our one year wedding anniversary.

My friend Pia and I were looking for another roomie bc the other girl bailed. Pia got the word out to some people in the burbs, he (future lover) happened to be there and said he was down to move in. Out of desperation from searching, I didn’t care who lived with us as long as they paid rent.
We met the day we moved in and became super close friends, it was always respectful, platonic, best-buds type shit. We lived together for 2 years, Pia moved out after year 1. He ended up moving to CO after a life altering change.
The day he left was when I realized he was the perfect ”one” for me. I legit cried for weeks straight and we texted non stop every day. He came back a month later and said he really came back for me <3 8 years later, we’re still together and getting married on our 10 year roomie anniversary in October! Sometimes they’re right under your nose, or in this case, under the same roof ;)
