you’ll notice little webs that develop when you start naturally engaging with the things that interest you. go to the library and pick up a book on a topic you‘re interested in. they’ll definitely mention other experts that you can look for, and read their books and articles. search names of people you come across or topics you find interesting on Spotify! There are soooo many fascinating podcast episodes and interviews out there. subscribe to email newsletters on topics you like. soon, the algorithm will notice and you’ll start creating connections almost by accident.

research. seek answers. learn more. crave knowledge and information. for the love of whatever you believe in, don’t just stop at the headline of that article that momentarily piqued your interest while scrolling, or that one song you randomly heard and loved that one time. look it up- i bet the artist has more songs you’ll be into. i bet you’ll find similar artists that you‘ve perhaps never heard of. i bet actually reading that article is more interesting than the headline (most times, anyway). go down the rabbit hole! diving deeper is cool and fun and interesting.

I usually search for playlist with a similar vibe I'm going for to see what they've added and get inspo. Look at related artists to the ones already in the playlist, and create a radio station out of the songs to automatically get recommended similar songs! Just click around and listen and explore!! You can also look at the genres of the songs that have your vibe and explore those (everynoise is a cool website to explore genres with). Most of all try to let it evolve, you will come across songs eventually that'll fit perfectly and you can add them as they come. Let your playlists grow over months and years, it doesn't have to be all done in one go!! :)

at least casually. don’t delete the accounts but don’t have the apps on your phone either. rediscover your love of reading thru the magic of recognizing titles strangers are holding on the subway. become a subway reader. don’t use sound as an escape from your thoughts/feelings/surroundings. grocery shopping without headphones is actually kind of beautiful! pick up a new hobby or two or three. one of them should be something you’re not good at, and at least one should be no- or low-cost. never. stop. learning. the library, the parks and rec department, and nearby museums offer great materials already but also usually have free lectures or courses. go outside more. like, a lot more. (took this much less literally, so apologies if it’s not what you’re looking for lol — as a narcoleptic I have no tips on how to Not Sleep since Sleep is basically my job)
