Indigenous peoples of so-called-USA used this planting practice… and it comes with a story!
There were 3 sisters who were always fighting. The mother warned them, and told them to work together or they would face the consequences.
The youngest sister was the squash, she learned she could help her sisters by covering the ground, and protecting the soil from weeds.
The middle sister was the beans, who was planted to help bring nitrogen to the soil for her sisters.
And the eldest sister was corn, who acted as a support for her middle sister. The beans climb up the corn stalks as support.
Using indigenous practices & watching nature work together is so beautiful 🤍🥹
