One thing I LOATHE is vintage furniture resellers that aggressively price gouge on what is supposed to be an affordable way for normal people to furnish a home. I am now engaged in a deep level of imagined trade warfare with some of the major vintage resellers in the NY area across various online auction sites like the one linked below. I know this because I have lost bids on $20 chairs that I later see in these stores for 10x the cost. Mostly out of spite, I want to recommend online estate sales - not everything closes for cheap but it is by far less expensive than a good chunk of resellers. It’s like FB Marketplace but with a PvP mode.

The only way to reliably buy furniture, if you ask me. I’m biased (newsletter), but I’ve used it heavily myself. Lots of good stuff, many styles, Italian, new regency, mcm, deco, avant… things go for nothing because 1. nobody really knows anything about furniture and 2. it can sometimes require work to arrange. But if you’re willing to put in 2% time and effort you can get legit excellent old gear (or new I guess) for dirt cheap, two or three price stratospheres below retail, and way below what anything good asks on a curated IG account. Honestly everything just sells to the same dozen set decorators and re-sellers. The catch is the good stuff tends to be centered around LA, NY and Dallas. But even if you live in Seattle this is the only way of buying furniture that doesn’t involve actually lighting money on fire, or compromise.

Idk it’s hard to go to estate sales when you live in nyc and I love this shit mostly for art and expensive jewelry which you can sometimes score for so little

I stumbled upon an estate sale last week and it’s turned my world upside down. A place with few vintage resellers (thank god), lots low prices and cool things. I found this mirror and I soon be hanging it up. **if you are a vintage reseller- you did not see this post & you will not ruin the one sacred, affordable shopping experience left pls and thank you **

Last Thursday, a meteor appeared in the night sky over Los Angeles. I stood in place for 30 seconds watching it blaze brilliant red and orange before fizzling out suddenly. The experience moved me immensely and filled me with a sense of hope that I hadn’t felt in quite some time. I read later that it was a SpaceX satellite. I wish I hadn’t.

There's something about a wet and humid early morning that heals my soul. It's like a free sound bath. Especially if you are lucky and have a little bit of thunder alongside.
