the first time i listened to it, my life was changed simply because of how gorgeous the music is. then i learned about the LORE. every subsequent listen since then has opened my eyes even wider. i got so involved to the point where i wrote an entire lore breakdown google doc (which i would be willing to share… if anyone wants that…) to send to my friends. if i could get my phd in ethel cain studies, i would. ethel cain is a generational talent, and i am so, so excited for her new album to come out in august!

Okay :) this is actually some of the best vocal music of all time and I’m so excited to gush rn :) I love this album cover because the portraiture, her look of love, on an album of songs her husband wrote for her and orchestra, everything about the framing is just pitch perfect :) please listen it is literally romantic intimacy vocalized, just the best classical vocal performance of our time imo :)

i feel so mature. her lyric "i am a fountain of blood, in the shape of a girl" wont leave my mind, god, its stuck in my ears like wax. and while making dinner tonight, i started to cry as i listened to 'it's oh so quiet' because it felt like a love letter to music itself, but also to the experience of falling in love, which we so childishly continue to do, in spite of it all. it was just so beautiful. i felt overwhelmed with the outpouring of love from it. it feels very much like an homage to sinatra and the crescendos that are sewn into songs from that era, of croons and blue moons. i adore that. and don't get me started on big time sensuality...
