simply one of the best attempts at historical fiction that will ever be written. vonnegut has such a poignant and warm voice, something that slices through the pre and post apocalyptic nightmare world he has created. not only does he accurately comment on eras past (the cuban missile crisis, the bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki, etc.), he somehow manages to accurately predict key figures and events in years to come (false prophets, Jonesville, etc). i remember reading this for the first time when i was 14 years old and not understanding a wink of it. however, vonnegut's voice continued to rattle around my conscious in the years following - so much so, that when i decided to pick of reading again, there was no other novel i would even consider reading first. i'm so happy to be restarting my reading journey with one of the best novels ever written.
