In 6th grade on the last day of school we were all signing each other’s yearbooks, and this girl Denise who I liked signed mine. We were all saying goodbye for the summer and I went in for a hug, but I guess I did it awkward middle school boy style. She stepped back laughing and said “Oo boy you give booty out hugs” It’s always stuck with me, and now I think the rule should be if your instinct is to give one of those awkward side hugs with your ass way out, it should probably just be a handshake or a wave.
