The pedway

A network of underground tunnels in The Loop. It’s like if Chicago had its own backrooms. There are shops, places to eat, a view of the LA Fitness swimming pool, a small stained glass window museum, the occasional public bathroom. You can even get to the entrance of Marriage Court in City Hall from the Pedway! Learning how to use it while working at my first museum job was a rite of passage. Imagine avoiding a blizzard or heavy rainstorm while commuting from the train to your office because you took an exquisite underground tunnel there. I will say, it has fallen into a bit of a state of disrepair. But I adore the Pedway and think it’s one of this city’s many many charms.

SUBWAYS TO NOWHERE

Another, less terrible, vice I've chosen is the city subway. I get off at a random stop, usually somewhere in the proper city, and wander for hours on end, conversing, exploring. It's nice. The rides always shorter than expected. But the windows above everything make me feel free. It makes me feel less like a rat in a concrete cage and it's more than appreciated. I ❤️ Miami Metro man HELL YES!
