Charli was right, it’s Cronenberg summer bitch. Even though his movies have consistent winter vibes, the amount and variety of bodies on display in the summer certainly makes it grotesque enough to be suitably Cronenbergian (?) The Shrouds was excellent, his Interview mag feature was hot and there’s never a bad time to revisit his incredibly strong and varied filmography. Don’t sleep on the other Cronenberg boy either, his son Brandon has made two of my favorite mind fucks in recent memory with Possessor and Infinity Pool.

This, like most Cronenberg films, has a particular vibe and emotion to it. Something I cannot explain. The humanity of it all - this movie. What he’s talking about and what he’s going through. Go see this movie while it’s still in theaters.

i love gore and blood and guts and i love weird bodily transformations and cool practical effects and most importantly i love fucked up freak shit. i also love when a piece of art makes me feel a little sick and uncomfortable in my own skin, inducing a bodily response is a high honor for something simply happening on a screen. i also feel particularly seen by the genre - it seems like there's a body horror movie for nearly every aspect of the discomfort i feel with my own body and how it relates to my place as a woman (anything fargeat, anything ducournau, swallow (2019), ginger snaps (2000), blue my mind (2018), dans ma peau (2002)... i'm definitely forgetting some) so i find these films very cathartic and special david cronenberg is the king of this genre, so if you're not super familiar with it, start with him.. videodrome (1983) is my favorite!!

Cronenberg‘s masterpiece? No director is better at writing artists. Confronts the dilemma of artist-in-the-Anthropocene & follows through to something like a spiritual epiphany that is radical as it is hopeful. Meaning in an unnatural world depends on regarding inhumanity with a grace that is superhuman. 3/3 ★★★

If you watch the American Kitchen Nightmares on Tubi it’s uncensored which makes it at least 20x funnier than it already is. Gordon is a solid British curser but the weekly rotating restaurant crews are the big draw here. You get cursing in regional dialects from all over the country from all kinds of weirdos who bring their unique, vulgar flavor to the table. This show is just a total gem in general but the real star is the narrator. The voice over narration on this show is comically dead pan to the point of surreality, kind of reminiscent of something like Fishing With John or The Rehearsal. It’s so good you begin to think it must have been intentionally tongue in cheek but then you remember the audience for this shit was post 9-11 suburban Fox watchers (Cops, 24, American Idol, etc. etc.) and you realize it’s all sincere.
