I was a beta reader for an unusual book. It was a speculative furry romance where the protagonist travels through a mirror for trysts with a man beast but returning home requires breaking through the mirror and she always returns injured to her aloof husband. Odd premise but it was actually to story of an abused wife disassociating. I don’t remember the title but it was self published about 5 years ago.

clara gives firebird by juliette cross three point seven five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 this was clara’s first monster romance… it was fun! clara would have rated this higher if it was a standalone. does every fantasy book need to be part of a 3+ series!!! firebird is a reimagining of ancient rome if the men in charge could also shift into dragons. it includes a master/slave romance so def read the trigger warnings before you pick this up! there’s a lot of misinformation about this book on booktok. two major points i would like to refute - no the female main character is not underage. no she is not romani (she is from what is now romania!)

today i spent an hour on chat gpt trying to find the name of this book that i thought i‘d lost or lent out by accident. Ai couldn’t figure it out but later when my friend came over she pulled it immediately off the shelf. i blame my hangover…. cool kinda smutty novel exploring power dynamics between folks in an open relationship… exploring queer sexuality. good for bisexuals feeling at odds with their identity. idk honestly i need to reread but i know i loved it and was really upset at the idea of having lost it or never being able to find it again
