The sheer relatability of this movie 20+ years later is a testament to its wit and charm, as well as to the stubbornness and rigidity of the post-grad corporate experience. CLOCKWATCHERS is reassuring, semi-romanticizing the 9-5 drudgery, while illustrating just how arbitrary the office setting truly is. Relatable! Parker Posey again proves to be the most darling of 90s indie darlings, and I feel a kinship to all of the main characters based on their chunky mary janes alone. Cheers to female friendship, may it exist as fashionably and as rebelliously as capitalism allows!

Free on Tubi until the end of the month. A bare indie film from 1998 starring young Toni Colette and a restrained, but peRfEcT Parker Posey - about four girls temping in an office, who find their budding dynamic disrupted by the appearance of an anonymous office thief ! Anyway, I weirdly love it. It’s stranger than it should be allowed to be - and funnier - a good comfort watch. None of us really spend our time in bland corporate office environments anymore, so it's funny and a bit deranged to remember back to when 9-5 was the premiere terror of all creative independent minds.

“Everything is temporary. Everything begins and ends and begins again.” dir. Jill Sprecher Starring Toni Colette, Lisa Kudrow, Parker Posey, and Alanna Ubach. Stellar performance by the late great Stanley DeSantis: queer icon and goated character actor.

Parker Posey rocks so hard! Such a fun movie and you can tell the cast and crew were themselves involved in the party scene they were depicting! I think it's a really good movie for anyone feeling lost and aimless in their twenties, lovers of public libraries, diagetic musical pieces, and fun club fashion! I feel like Mary so much and wish I had her closet, her apartment, her job, and her man.

In pre-21st century movies and media, we always see couples that go to bed, independently read their books, and once sleepy, clap off the lights and peacefully retire to sleep. Maybe there’s a reason this trope is so common! Maybe couples who read together, sleep together!! Reading before bed regulates my brain and body in ways I did not know were possible. Screens are bad for you, specifically and especially before bedtime… who knew! And with a good nights sleep I have so much energy to do things, including but not limited to more reading.

Collecting a stack of printed takeout menus from local restaurants is equivalent to finding community in your town/city. I love to get off my phone and flip through a printed menu when deciding what to order for dinner, appreciating the graphic design choices and the hometown staples on each menu. And they are only wasteful if you waste them! What great material for emergency note-taking, for adorning your fridge, for COLLAGING! Oh my goodness what great and meaningful content organically exists in a printed takeout menu from your favorite local spot.

Mr. Cassavetes is the man who has made me cry the most, isn’t that saying something! Starting ten minutes into the 2.5 hour-long film, I felt my heart slowly sink into my stomach, and by the end I was claustrophobic with such feelings of hopelessness, confusion, and the sting of reality. I cried myself to sleep, I didn’t know what else to do with myself! A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE is worth a watch for all these reasons, and for Gena Rowland’s unmatched and masterful performance, and for these reasons is a movie I must never watch again. Brava!
