EVERYONE IN NEW YORK LIKES TO SHIT ON MIDTOWN. I THINKS THERES THIS IDEA THAT HATING ON MIDTOWN MAKES YOU A REAL NEW YORKER BUT THESE DAYS ITS ACTUALLY MEGA HIPSTER TO LOVE MIDTOWN AND CALL IT UNDERRATED. SPECIFICALLY WEST MIDTOWN. NOT LIKE FUCKING MURRAY HILL. IN PROXIMITY TO HELLS KITCHEN IS THE BEST, HELLS KITCHEN HAS THE BEST SALVATION ARMY IN AN OLD DIRTY BUILDING WITH GREAT FURNITURE AND TONS OF ACTUALLY THRIFT PRICED CLOTHING AND ITS CONFUSING TO GET INTO THE BUILDING AND ITS RIGHT BY THAT FREEDOM TUNNEL GRAFFITI WRITERS LOVE. MIDTOWN AND HELLS KITCHEN HAS SOME OF THE LAST CRUSTY WEIRDO OLD PEEPS THAT MAKE THE CITY FAB, LIKE PEEPS THAT MUTTER TO THEMSELVES AND HAVE WEIRD OUTFITS AND CLEARLY HAVE HAD THE SAME RENT CONTROL APARTMENTS FOR LIKE A BILLION YEARS AND KNOW EVERYONE ON THEIR BLOCK AND STORIES ABOUT THE “OLD NEW YORK” AND GET THE CITY MYTHOLOGY THAT WE ALL ARE SUCKERS FOR!!!!!!

It is essential to remind yourself that Manhattan is a big city, with much more to offer than just the charades of downtown. Take the subway to the Upper West Side and walk through the park on 81st street. Go to the Met (you can skip the entire ticket line by entering through the student entrance to the left of the main stairs). Have dinner at my favorite restaurant “Celeste” on 84th and Amsterdam, or have lunch at “ Via Quadronno”  on 73rd between Madison and 5th. When you head back downtown or to Brooklyn at the end of the evening, you’ll feel like you traveled far and went on vacation. Feeling like a tourist in your own city is a gift and a thrill!

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKER’S DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. 🥳 unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!! if you don’t have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIO’s page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. there’s always more power in a union!! ✊🥖🌹
