the most fucked up dark comedy iāve ever seen
at the same time thatās funny as hell itās the most disturbing movie ever made, i legit couldnāt properly sleep at night when i first watched
todd solondz needs therapy
watched happiness a couple months ago for the first time at the movie theatre i volunteer at and got such a kick out of the way this movie had us all laughing then wincing then groaning in a span of seconds. it was so tense and there was this general vibe of "are we allowed to laugh???" and solondz says, yes yes laugh, so you can also feel the pain, then laugh about that too
watched wiener-dog yesterday and again really enjoyed how mean the whole thing can be and then bam outta nowhere he hits you with these moments of real sweetness. stacked cast also
those are the only two i've seen but very excited to keep discovering his movies
sandman / guzman / hoffman
not sure how many times i've seen it, but my viewing last night was so therapeutic. sandlerās emotional range coupled with the super syncopated and relentless jon brion score and the long winded tracking shots totally lure you into his psyche and you can really feel his feelings and laugh at the pain. it perfectly captures a slice of life, when the odds feel stacked against you and everything is in overdrive. itās got all the blueprints a superhero movie would have yet itās set in a mundane liminal world. itās like what if the hulk had to put up with a never ending stream of hurdles and bullshit, but instead of green skin and a big bod itās adam sandler in a blue suit and they both break a lot of stuff
thereās nothing better than do something (it can be your hobbie or even some work, it donāt matter) late at night when no one is disturbing you, you have no new notifications at your phone, your neighbourhood is silent, the world is quiet and calm
thatās the best time
āall those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rainā
the visuals, the lightning, the characters, the dialogues, the sound, the atmosphere, thereās nothing about this movie i donāt love
just saw him on c6 fest @ sao paolo today and my life is changed, heās a fucking star and his performance is so brutal yet so gentle
also just remembered how good is glory
