Beastmaster (dir. Don Coscarelli)

Over the last couple of years I became super addicted to the coziness of “Sword and Sorcery” fantasy movies.  My favorites are the ones made circa the 80’s:  Red Sonja, Apple, The Last Unicorn, Masters of the Universe, and Beastmaster; which is simply my favorite of the genre.  In a broader sense, these movies share the kind of sentiment I love to feel when watching B-movies: sloppy execution cannot destroy the charisma embedded in a labor of love.

Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal

Ok first off i did google "primal" bc i can never remember how to spell his name. on my like 4th rewatch of season 1/1st full series rewatch. This is that shit dude. Absolutely brutal in all ways. Violent, atmospheric, terrifying, adventerous, beautiful, love full, wow. If you like animation, short list this and start it tonight. If you dont like animation, step out of your comfort zone and give it a try. Solidly one of the best western animations.

Hellsing

A near perfect vampire anime that I was turned on to by my emo Latino friends in Orange County (California) as a teen. It was originally drawn as a hentai manga by the Rubenesque Kouta Hirano, who eventually replaced the sex with extreme violence and sold it as a show. I bought a bootleg Hellsing shirt in London a few years ago and was stabbed the first night I wore it out. The shirt is still covered in dried blood on the sides. I wore it for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago.
