As a kid I went to a lot of different conventions and video game tournaments. I had friends that I'd only see in these places. Every time I went we'd pick up right where we left off like some kind of sleeper cell. It was pretty awesome.

i think the main reason ive been able to keep up a relationship with my friends from home is that we play dungeons and dragons together. even when we're all busy and end up not playing for like 2 months, having those semi-regular calls is huge. also, having that common touch-point of the game and our characters is great while our lives and other interests are going in different directions. ofc this is probably only applicable if you and your friends are nerds

one of my favorite activities When I was 13 I started making friends on Xanga - some of who have become my closest long term friends IRL. I think it’s neat that something as simple as a shared love for a band can spawn such deep long lasting friendships that take you who knows where.

Youtube's been killing it with the free movies. Just don't look up the sequel.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just walk away and try again another time.

I like learning a broad range of new things. I have some friends with similar sensibilities that have never left academia, but that’s not really my thing. id rather just be mediocre at some skill then move onto the next thing until ive done everything or die.
