I can’t even begin to share how grateful I am for my friends. We are the only one out of the bunch that has children, and since our son was born he has been treated like one of the gang. Our friends are also his friends. Being at a gathering with young kids typically means a lot of following them around, but that is broken up with my friends swooping in to play or join us in the adventure. It’s so lovely to be able to catch up with a friend and watch my other friends joyfully interacting with my kids, whether that’s playing a game or teaching a skill. This is part of what community is about!

Having friends outside of my life stage continues to prove very enriching. It's interesting to hear what they are thinking about / what problems they are facing. last night a friend was talking about how she's trying to parent her very independent 10 yr old son (without over-parenting). That made me think about what my mom might have been thinking when I was a very independent 10-year-old. I think that is a bud of empathy next Tuesday, I am getting lunch with my friend who is a divorced mother of two, thats chic as fuck, and also i care about this person. we have little in common in terms of life stage, but also, sort of a lot in common
