we should not be thinking the winter is the time when cycles begin… that’s the most deep and slow time in nature!! in reality, the energy and flow of nature really begins again in the spring… when the sun is warming things up, things are being reborn, and seeds are sprouting!!! so, HAPPY ACTUAL NEW YEARS!!!

For some reason, the past few years I’ve had this obsession with completely ignoring the existence of spring. Oh, it’s the first of May? Then summer is officially here! But no, why should I ignore one of the most important seasons of all? If summer is the goal, then spring is the journey, and we all know that it’s the path that counts not the destination. And once I’d made this realisation it took such a heavy weight off of my shoulders; I realised that I actually had some time to shed my moody winter persona, and to slowly crank up the outgoing summer persona who wants to speak to absolutely everyone and do absolutely everything. So for me, spring is officially the best season of the year, and it’s made me feel like having an amazing summer in 2024 if within my own power, and not something that I have to blindly hope for.

there’s something magical in the air where anything is possible—the day feels lighter, you start appreciating the night being slightly long (but not too long), you go forth with some of the more realistic plans for the year instead of new year resolutions that were never gonna turn into anything, and the cool air actually feels nice! it’s basically a pre-game for spring

Indigenous peoples of so-called-USA used this planting practice… and it comes with a story! There were 3 sisters who were always fighting. The mother warned them, and told them to work together or they would face the consequences. The youngest sister was the squash, she learned she could help her sisters by covering the ground, and protecting the soil from weeds. The middle sister was the beans, who was planted to help bring nitrogen to the soil for her sisters. And the eldest sister was corn, who acted as a support for her middle sister. The beans climb up the corn stalks as support. Using indigenous practices & watching nature work together is so beautiful 🤍🥹
