I haven't been to too many museums, spending the most time at the MET probably.. but I visited this one in Yonkers while visiting a friend. The exhibits were super well curated. There was a beautiful room with clothing related pieces and this absolutely insane room-wide work that was like a sort of life sized diorama (see link). The parts from Felix Gonzalez Torres messed me up bad but fortunately they were some of the last bits we looked at (emoji related).. She (the friend) also has a weird way of bringing out the best of me regarding this sort of thing, so I was really in a mindset to appreciate everything. It's a great museum that is deeply loved by the people who work there, strongly recommend if you ever find yourself boating up the Hudson.

This museum was so so so cool. I decided to stop it today to see their Tiffany Lamps exhibit, and I was blown away not only by the lamp collection, but by all of the exhibits. I'm excited to go back and spend more time there. Admission is pay what you wish on Fridays from 5-8!

I recently visited the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. I’ve been before and I do enjoy many artists and artworks displayed, though this time I was eyeing something else. Humans in the Isle of Manhattan are always a specific type of special, but when showing up and spending their hard-earned money on a museum ticket; theres visual magic. I spent this trip in and around the MoMA taking photos of the people/scenes I thought needed to be captured.

This is probably the best art museum in the city even though its goal is to be plainly didactic and show off some dinosaur bones. Just look at those dioramas. It’s all Off. As my colleague Louis Osmosis might say, it’s giving kunst. Philanthropy chic. I love that some corners of this place haven’t seen any sprucing up since like the 90’s. It feels abandoned and too big for its own good; each section suggests varying degrees of attendance and funding so there’s a weird fragmented feel to walking through the entire museum. Some rooms have flickering lights and are mad dusty. Definitely for fans of Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulations lol! I recommend going in the winter time.

My god everything is experienced better this way. Stop looking at guides, walkthroughs, endings explained (my least favorite), even the blurbs on the back. Such a rare opportunity in this time to go into something without knowing anything about it, yet so rewarding. To be pleasantly surprised or blown away, to have no idea what’s happening, to find that you really didn’t like it, an opinion formed on your own.. nothing is more valuable
