Not necessarily a recommendation. Iâm half way through and there is no specific plot. Itâs about the narratorâs childhood stories. Sometimes it is entertaining to come across the same experiences youâve had as a child. So, I have mixed feelings about it but would love to hear anybodyâs thoughts if theyâve read this.
A âmemoir of a placeâ, Crapalachia is the semi-unreliable account/ recollection of growing up and coming of age in rural West Virginia. Throughout reading (well, listening to) this, I found myself jumping between sadness and laugh out loud laughter. The characters often feel exaggerated to the point that I feel thereâs no chance itâs an accurate recollection, but then there are moments where theyâre brought back down to earth instantly grounding them and making sense of some of their eccentricities. To give you a small taste of whatâs in store for you if you choose to read this - the antics McClanahan recounts range from helping his uncle pour beer down his feeding tube before listening to his favorite radio preacher, to visiting his Grandmaâs pre purchased grave because itâs a âgood investmentâ.
So I actually finished this book yesterday and I know I'm gonna be thinking about it for a long long time. it's a coming of age story about a young boy growing up in 1980s working-class Glasgow during the Thatcher administration but it's also just as much about his mother's struggle with alcohol addiction. It's a sad read but there's also a lot of hope in this book, and I found the ending really satisfying If you check it out, I recommend a silly read after, almost as a dessert if you will. i'm rereading one of the Clique books before I dive into another serious read and i'm having a good time!
i know itâs bonkers to act like people arenât aware of all of patti smiths work but you never know!!! i read this probably 3-4 years ago and i still think about it all the time. i guess not technically fiction but same feel.
I just watched this video on transcendental meditation explained by David Lynch and found it very interesting. It is a good start if you want to learn about how existing actually plays out in your life or just to understand the power of your mind.
It honestly seems more logical to me to own physical media now. You can buy a CD or DVD of anything and be able to consume it as much as you want; whereas in subscription sites, you pay monthly for a bunch of media that you may not even like and regularly use.
