As someone who has a uniquely spelt name, my biggest grief with it has never come from its obvious differences but people’s outright rejection of its difference. My name has the tough task of holding so much identity within its one word and people’s seemingly entitled liberties in changing its spelling will always make my blood boil. To be clear, people never spell it right the first time and that’s not my issue. It is that after many repetitions, teachings, or it being spelt correctly right in front of them, that they still take it within themselves to spell it how they find appropriate. I imagine many others with cultural, ethnic, or unique names also face this frustration. So. I am volunteering as tribute to plead with the public to spell our names right.

most of the time people just give up on spelling or pronouncing my last name. in kindergarten my teacher asked everyone in the class to spell their last names and told me i didn’t have to (i wanted to and i did!) i haven’t changed it despite getting married. my husbands last name is only 4 letters and would make my name a lot easier to spell and remember for people, but im attached to my last name. so much of my identity and culture and lived experience is wrapped up in that name

it’s always been difficult for me personally to remember peoples names but the moment i remember someone’s name its like the best feeling ever lol and it’s also amazing when someone pronounces your own name correctly and doesn’t ig you could say white wash it 😭 also when someone spells the name right cause for me it’s such a big pet peeve when my name is spelt wrong

which was embarrassing + frustrating as a child. As an adult I figured out a joke to teach people to say my name correctly and now I really love having an un-nicknamable name + also basically a mononym cos U have probably never met another one of me in Ur life !!

People can never get my name right in first try, most of the time end up calling me before but my name's simple to pronounce its "vib-whore".

I’m watching it be fleshed out in real time, seeing every kind of mishap or glitch. I love it, it’s changing with me.
