I'm a simple woman, I deeply enjoy the way that Eric Rohmer captures the summer season, and my favorite one of his many summer movies is The Green Ray. Is protrays a very distinct summer from my tropical experience, but shares that hazy feeling of people melting in the sun, completed by the selection of truly gorgeous French landscapes. However, where it truly shines is the ability to capture the duality of summer, along the hot weather and beaches, there is that little melancholy nurtured by the expectation that you need to enjoy things the most and have the best time. The director treats the protagonist very kidly and respects that melancholy, but suggests a quite sweet and optimistic ending.

Oh yes! I had this on my Letterboxd watch list for a long time.... and instead of watching that, I tried to go with 'Pauline at the Beach', but indeed, it was too-seaside for me. I guess I really need that subtle soft melancholy in the background to embrace this upcoming summer. Thank u for the reminder x

Éric Rohmer is probably one of my favourite directors of all time. I have seen all six of his Moral Tales, all four of his Four Seasons, and quite a few of his Comedies and Proverbs (of which The Green Ray is the fifth). This was the movie I started university with as I was reminded of this film after visiting Biarritz and St-Jean-de-Luz. Personally, I felt a rewarch of Delphine’s beautiful and atmospheric solo explorations throughout France was perfect as I had just moved away from home for the first time!

This film focuses heavily on the mood and feel. From shots of the French Riviera's rocky shore, to the sprawling fields by the Villa, you're constantly treated with the beauty of nature. In stark contrast to nature's simple & easy beauty, the characters range from narcissistic to "Bohemian" (as described in the movies summary). The plot here focuses on the 3 people vacationing in this villa, 2 friends Adrien & Daniel, and an unwelcome guest Haydée — dubbed the collector of men. Told from Adrien's perspective, you get to experience his mental contradictions first-hand as he battles through what he says he wants, and what you, as a viewer, know he wants. Éric Rohmer’s La Collectionneuse is a great character study, with the excellent bonus of being beautifully shot and extremely vibey.

I know there are days when you are so tired, or maybe you made a big meal for friends and family or you spent the afternoon meal prepping and now you have to clean like five pots and a tray, but be brave!!! (my inner monologue) Don't force your future self to wake up to a bunch of dirty dishes. It will keep your mind full because you will be constantly reminding yourself to clean that up.

One of the things I like the most about Pi.fyi and the current scale of users is that it's still noticeable when a rec was inspired by another. Sometimes the rec directly mentions the other, but other times you can kinda assume that reading an especific thing here triggered a memory or an ideia. It's very cute and interesting to notice the small influences interacting with other humans online can have.
