A lot of music I listen to is only available on youtube - Most of the bands were small DIY bands that just made tapes or a 7” that you can’t find anywhere. So I'm thankful for the people that have ripped these to the internet for me and plenty of other people to discover. Bulldoze was a band from NY formed in the early 90’s that pioneered the “beatdown” style blahblahblah. Many have tried (and failed) to create a demo as good as this. Since it’s been available on streaming platforms I listen to it on my commute at least once a week. I love reading the comments from the last couple of generations talking about memories they have of the bands who got stabbed at what show and whatever. Greatest of all time shit for me.(1:53 for what really gets me going)

Hüsker Dü were in limbo in 1985. Their relationship with SST was starting to sour after the legendary Twin Cities band’s release of New Day Rising, and by the end of the year they were in talks with major labels (September’s Flip Your Wig stayed with Greg Ginn’s label, but Warner swept in soon after). Now, five live recordings from the top of 85, split between those aforementioned albums, were unearthed and freshened up by the archival titans at Numero Group, who also put out the group’s 2017 box set Savage Young Dü.
Don’t expect a bootleg. The hometown show at Minneapolis venue First Avenue was recorded to 24-track tape for an intended release that never came to fruition. Jan. 30, First Ave Pt. 1 highlights the band’s brash, pop-pushing punk, proving that good things come in threes. Their raw presence surely silenced a few naysayers who, at the time, thought their melodic inclinations and genre bleed pointed towards a “commercial” sound. Some people don’t know what they’ve got until it’s gone … and then recovered by the label that introduced Duster to Gen Z.  - Madeline Frino

Bay Area shoegaze/dreampop band from the early 90s that had their demo uploaded online in the mid 2010s. Great listen

Black Flag, Circle Jerks, X, Germs, Fear, all before anyone even knew who they were. (I did, I grew up in SoCal during that time -- but it's not like anyone outside of L.A. did). Subtitled for the punk-impaired.

Everyone has been losing their shit over Seinfeld fits for the last year or whatever, but you know what’s actually good and not beat to death? Some good midwest real life type beat. I rewatched Tommy Boy a month ago (while I was recovering from my COVID allegations) Nylon Parkas over a tie (some good reps in there) and blazer, Military jackets, workwear being used for work, and the stussy hat with the herringbone jacket. This is just how people used to dress. And to think we used to be a real country.

Have you ever heard that thing in NYC about barbers? Apparently you shouldn’t share that information with anyone because the next time you go to see them they won't be able to see you. Not 100% sure if that tracks ATM but I love my barber. I get a haircut at least once a week. (if I have the time once every five days) I keep a tight fade and because it’s so short it grows fast. A good haircut and beard trim is hands down  one of the best feelings in the world. Fresh haircut right before the weekend? *Pop Smoke voice* I feel invincible

I hand/delicate wash most of my clothes.(esp nice tshirts and oxfords) it prolongs the life of your stuff 10x - never understood people that said it’s “too much” (sounds lazy to me) Sometimes you just need to hit your shirt collars and sleeves after wear or before you throw it in the washing machine. The bar and brush are both small so I can bring them with me when I travel. (Sometimes I'll just get a new bar as part of my travel checklist, it makes my luggage smell good too!) I try to keep one in my car, at the store, office, etc. Just in case of emergencies.
