Poetry books always helps me write better lyrics, whether it’s one word that starts rolling the ball for me or some imagery I take away from a poem. My manager put me onto Sappho. I bought “If Not Winter: Fragments of Sappho”, finished the whole poetry collection in one car ride, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I have all her collections now. I think it’s so bizarre that she existed years and years ago but her soul writes like modern art. Great for people who are into writing about love (me).

This is the greatest love of my life (and, in a sense, my career given my future MFA career, stay tuned), but you really should read more poetry in general. It's fantastic. okay yes "Instagram poetry" is en vogue hot garvage and frankly, makes me sick to my stomach, but poetry as an art form which contains and focuses experience, emotion, and attention, is one of the most profound things (ideally) we continue to produce. Poetry is, in a sense, something which moves towards a potentiality of art and writing in general in a current moment where it seems almost lacking.
What, then, can we do as poets or writers?

The first thing I think of with Sara Teasdale's poetry is their steady beat. You really feel your heart with them.
Some stand out lines of hers:

As for extra ideas!
1. Get an Everyman's Pocket Poetry book. Choose a theme you enjoy, like say rivers! Get that collection, read through it and discover a load of new poems and potentially new favorite poets. Ofc you may know them already, but it fits nicely in a large coat pocket or small purse and is very cute so it's no loss if you've already familiarized yourself with everything they offer.
2. Read translated poetry! ESPECIALLY if it has the original text!! This will be incredibly rewarding: It'll introduce you to imagery that might appear as often in English, it'll open up for you whole new world of poetry AND it might ever make you new/deeper friendships! (It did for me!)
The book 'Chinese Poetic Writing' by François Cheng was one I found and enjoyed a lot! (With original text included! Unfortunately a rarity!)

everyone should write poetry about their lovers but also their friends and even strangers! I ask on my Instagram every so often for people to write poems about and I always get a few takers and they always like the poem. It’s so sweet. I do this with strangers on the street if I get the vibe too!

It all started months ago when I went to Cafe Los Feliz for a little breakfast treat. I got the pain au chocolat and it was massive, filled with thick chocolate, and so flaky and chewy. Every morning I think about taking a walk to get a pain au chocolat from this cafe near me but my standards are too high now, and im also really lazy. Anyways, I could have these for breakfast everyday so if anyone has reccs on where to get some very chocolatey and chewy ones let me know.

They are just so big and juicy and the perfect snack. I eat three baskets of strawberries in one sitting. Not sure if thats healthy
