garlic mustard (highly invasive), Alliaria petiolata, a triangular stemmed garlic smelling plant with green tubular silique fruits.
Teaching my friends to identify this plant today, how to harvest and when, then how to process it into pesto.
I learned how to identify this plant in an internship back in 2019 and now i’m teaching my friends how to get rid of this invasive as hell plant in our own backyards.
garlicky, horseradishy, and a little bitter it’s delicious.
warning though, you cannot compost or throw away this plant. you must always dispose of it in a garbage bag to transport it and burn. this plant spreads like crazy and must be treated as a disease to wildlife. even though it is yummy, it outcompetes all other plants it grows near. educate yourself on foraging practices and get out there!!
