I love local radio. When I get in the truck, I don't have to find something to listen to, I have professionally curated music. Tastemakers of Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Rhythym and Blues have decided what I'll hear, and they know their stuff. Go listen to your local radio, or check out 90.3FM WHCJ: the Voice of Savannah State University, Georgia's oldest HBCU.

Recently, my car's aux finally broke for good, so while I wait to replace it, I've been listening to my local alternative radio station. The traffic report is super helpful and I love my DJs!! Like, these are people in my community that have been on the air for at least 10+ years and I love that I can trust them. Sometimes I'll tune in and it's really not my thing but then the next song is so near and dear to my heart. Maybe it's because my friend's mom would pick us up either blasting Kendrick's DAMN or 92 The ZEW, but it's such a nice nostalgic feeling for me. It's crazy to tune into the radio and hear the same voice introduce the same song that I heard ten years ago with my bestie. So try pausing your playlist and let the DJs guide you next time you buckle up.

local/college radio is the absolute best way to find new music, especially when they are non-commercial and have a lot of freedom with what they play. sometimes you need to look past some bad picks but that’s part of the fun. also!! when u get into a habit of tuning in routinely you hear the same DJs frequently and get to know them and it’s so cute. AND local radio stations often run events and you can get involved and meet your favourite DJs and all of a sudden it’s not just discovering new music it’s a community!!! long live college radio!!
