people need to learn about hallucinations if they are going to use ai generated content. especially ai generated content for the purpose of learning.
things like chatgpt may seem to output legitimate answers, but it does not understand what it outputs. it does absolutely no thinking at all! each word after the other is generated because STATISTICALLY it is most likely to be the next best word. chatgpt is not trained to respond "I don't know" and will just try to respond with an answer that statistically makes the most sense in response to your prompt! leading to sometimes bs responses!

Iād say if you are up to date with what AI is actually capable of and understand what itās doing when synthesizing data then you are able to use it as an effective tool. Blindly believing its answer to any question seems to be the issue here and thatās where the general public is right now. Although most AI companies have some way of informing the user that the answers arenāt always accurate, it might be important for these companies to be more transparent and upfront about these facts.

yesterday my coworkers said they were gonna translate a bunch of materials using chatgpt into like 4 other languages and all i could say tactfully was uhhh maybe use google translate instead.
openai has done such a disturbing job of convincing people that ai is capable of critical thought when it absolutely is not and is inherently incapable of generating information as reliably as a person can. you can tell chatGPT that the sky is red enough times and it'll start regurgitating that as fact. you can tell me the sky is red once and i will go outside and look at it and know you're an idiot

I fully believe that the AI chatbots are very intentionally being pushed as an educational/social/creative ātoolā to make people less able to have creative and critical thought. if we put all of that energy into something as convenient as chatgpt, whether itās to help write an essay or use as a ātherapist,ā we think weāre satiating that human urge to be creative. Creativity is at its most powerful when people can pull from the discomfort and inspiration of the human experience, which can lead to critiques towards the oligarchs running the country right now. convenience will always win people over when theyāre exhausted from working in this late stage of capitalism. Also, it would be incredibly easy to inject the bots with propaganda and misinformation.
