I spun the Phoebe Rings on my bike ride to work today! I heard about it through the Carpark Records newsletter and after listening to singles I was hooked. Phoebe Rings is from Auckland, New Zealand and are a groovy dream pop band with some city pop shimmering through their songs. The lead singer Crystal Choi bounces between Korean and English and is counter-balanced nicely with background vocals from Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent. The're also opening for The Beths on their upcoming US tour! merce lemon is maybe closer to big thief type folk rock than phoebe bridgers but still relatively close & hasn’t fully blown up yet . we used to run in the same tumblr circles way back & merce has always been incredibly real & cool & have really grown into the sound & full band ! new album coming out in a couple weeks & the first singles have been beautiful also searows sounds a lot closer to phoebe bridgers but you have very likely listened to him already , but still worth a rec for beautiful & quiet often devastating songs . found him through ethel cain’s ig stories & listened to a lot of guard dog for a while . used to be friends is a highlight for me

If you like alternative/indie rock music The Beths are the way to go. They are a small band from New Zealand and have grown quite rapidly in the past few years. They just performed at Coachella this year which is a massive achievement for a NZ band! I've seen them live a few times and they're gonna be touring in the US from Aug/sept so keep an eye out. Most wholesome band you will ever listen to.

Orchid pretentious post-hardcore screamo from amherst, mass. in the early 2000s. a lot of their songs are about critical theory. Maher Shalal Hash Baz Japanese nativist PSF records, not Really a band just this guy tori Kudo and whoever he has around him. kind of sounds like the velvet underground remixed by a kid playing an accordion. The Cannanes Melbourne Indy pop from that sweet spot between the late 80s early 90s. Best tracks use a drum machine, there are some great living room live recordings on YouTube.

BEST COAST NO COAST (technically wrong because we have THE LARGEST BODY OF FRESH WATER IN THE WORLD). We're stereotyped as being nice; our signature dishes are all things that make you feel more full than a grain silo at the end of the harvest season; the great lakes are beautiful; supper clubs; 4 seasons superiority; relatively mild natural disasters; endless list of artists, musicians, generally successful and prolific people from the midwest; natural wonders galore (driftless region, boundary waters, apostle islands, etc.); eccentric culture and lifestyle; the list goes on and on. I love being from Wisconsin, and I will never feel bad about it.

Good for getting that weird sticky dust buildup off of your counters and for old sticker residue. That goo is indeed gone
