Was off of coffee for a bit and weening myself back onto it. Had a medium cold brew at dunks yesterday for the first time in a long time, something I used to suck down, and now I’m just like “that’s too much coffee!”

I’m so addicted to caffeine it’s embarrassing. I don’t know why, but for years I wouldn’t drink coffee. I think it was a taste thing? I don’t know. I started drinking coffee because I’m a 24 year old man and I can’t drink Monster Energy every day anymore. Also, they got like one billion ingredients in Monster. I don’t know what the fuck L-carnitine is but i’ve put so much of it into my body and I constantly feel like a science experiment. Anyways, I’ve really been into cold brew concentrate lately. My roommate has this big plastic cold brew maker that he leaves in the fridge overnight and I'm way too lazy to use that. Don’t know the name of the brand but it’s got a lizard on it, it costs $9, and it lasts me a week. All I gotta do is pour it into some water and I’m good to go.

Here’s what I did in two week intervals to avoid withdrawal symptoms:
75% caf/25% decaf
50/50 caf/decaf
75% decaf/25% caf
100% decaf
I then drank dandy blend for a while because it tasted similar and was good for me.
Have a little special drink for yourself when you know you are going to be around coffee. It does not have to be something expensive or fancy, maybe just something that you enjoy and don’t normally drink.

I met Erin (@RIOTGRRRL) and Jake (@SLOWDAZZLE) last year after I started using PI.FYI—we organized a meetup before a Jonathan Richman show and immediately clicked over our shared taste in music and similar sensibilities. We started hanging out a lot and had some great times together. I’ve also gotten to know many of their friends, who are all really cool. Erin and Jake started dating a couple of months after the three of us became friends, but our group chat still pops off. Their friendship has meant a lot to me, especially since moving to NYC in 2023, and I really appreciate having them in my life.
