- Echo Park indoor swimming pool- a little more aquatic sport & exercise vibes with lanes for people doing laps. Not really a chillaxing vibe but good for swimming as sport
- Glassell Park Recreation Center Pool- very much community outdoor pool vibes, good mix of people in lanes doing laps/people in towels sunbathing/neighbors hanging out
- West Hollywood Aquatic Center - personally never been to this one but friends have told me that it's on a rooftop and there's lanes to do laps but also a separate chill out pool.

at the rec center, at the y, at free outdoor pools like the mccarren park pool… it’s so fulfilling to move your body in a way that doesn’t feel punishing because the water is truly carrying you and you are water!!! any time I find myself working too hard / tiring myself out, I let myself float 10% more and it’s also a therapy session in that way

it’s somehow such a novel and retro form of exercise. no screens. just you, your breath, and your stroke. and you’ve inevitably wound up sharing a public space, whether it’s the pool or the intimacy of sharing a lane. plus there’s a little treat after, take your pick: hot tub, sauna, or a steam.

⚡️Ziggy does a $20 day pass, somehow the pool is always sunny, they’ll heat it for you, there’s a bar upstairs.
🌹Rose Bowl Aquatic has a $2.50 (last I went anyway) public saline pool.
Verdugo pool is like $3.
Yosemite pool is ok, but I’ve had to leave twice cuz a kid had an accident.
