hey everyone! @REGULARCUCUMBER was so kind to message me and let me know about the origins of the term “big chop” - “The term "big chop" originated from Black culture, and describes the act of a Black woman cutting off all her chemically straightened hair to embrace her natural hair texture. Sometimes this meant having a few inches of hair or being completely bald. It is a bold way of rejecting Eurocentric beauty standards and affirming the beauty of blackness.” i have changed my caption and am adding this comment to share this history and not further water down this phrase :) always take time to look and see what the meaning and origins of all the terms you see and hear being thrown around really are! it’s so easy to misuse them in this digital age!

Chopping off a lot of hair

I just cut off like a foot of hair? Maybe 8 inches, I’m not sure? Anyway, hair is now in a shaggy bob and it used to go down past my bra band and I feel really generally good. I def believe hair holds memories and other things and even though this was just inspired becUse I’m tired of having tangles in the winter and not a major life event I still feel a lot lighter. Also showers are so easy and saving a ton of $ on shampoo and conditioner. Do it!!
